Nokia and Microsoft: Failing in the smartphone market together?

By Admin 15 March 2013
Nokia and Microsoft are two companies that are somewhat overshadowed by Apple, Samsung and Google in the smartphone market.  Microsoft's Windows Phone Operating System runs on lots of Nokia phones, mostly the Lumia series.  However, Nokia's premium Lumia handsets haven't proven to be popular at all, with sales considerably less than Apple's iPhone and Samsung's S series.  In fact, Nokia's budget smartphone range; the Asha series, outsold the Lumia handsets in 2012.

But why aren't Nokia and Windows OS Phones proving to be popular?
Many people are blaming the OS- Windows Phone.  The Operating system has been accused of not being as developed as Android or iOS.  The interface of iOS and Android are very similar while Windows Phone OS is a completely different experience   If you aren't familiar with it, the UI has coloured tiles which you can scroll up and down through.
Another reason why Nokia phones might be failing is because there's nothing special about them.  Apart from the wide range of colourful designs, nothing makes the lumia series stand out from the crowed.  Take the new Lumia 920, for example.  The camera is average (for a premium smartphone), as well as the processor, screen, and basically everything else.  In fact, the only thing that makes the Lumia series differ from other flagship phones is the operating system- and that isn't something to be proud of.
