Apple has a core of die-hard fans who've been loyal to the company and it's brand for years.  For them, to say that Apple is no longer innovating will be met with an uproar of protest.  They've just announced the iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus they'll say.  It's bigger, faster, thinner, tougher and better in every way. They're not wrong.  The new iPhones are better than the previous versions and the new screen sizes are a big step for the company- who seem to introduce small changes instead of taking big leaps.  However, what we see with the two new iPhones is nothing new.  No new revolutionary technology has been introduced to the market- nothing that hasn't been done before, by them or by another company.

The Samsung Galaxy range introduced large screen sizes into the mass market, a move closely followed by the likes of HTC, Sony and Nokia.  Apple did attempt to follow this trend with the iPhone 5, though a 4 inch screen was never going to be enough and they left it rather late updating it to 4.7 inches (which still remains smaller than the S5).

Of course, a new Apple product was announced yesterday: the Apple Watch.  It is the first new product released under CEO Tim Cook's reign but, again, it isn't anything new to the market.  Smartwatches are in very early days and it isn't even certain that they'll catch on with the consumer, but if they do Apple now have their foot in the door.  However, they still weren't first to the market.  Or even second, or third or fourth.  The Samsung Gear range is now is its second generation whilst Google has just released the Motorola Moto 360 watch- running their own Android Wear.  This is good for Android users as it will run with whatever Android phone they have, allowing for a much wider reach than Apples Watch.  In fact, the Apple Watch is at a very severe risk of limiting its market due to the fact that it runs alongside the iPhone.  The iPhone is expensive in itself, but shedding out $350 for a watch to go with it is a big ask.  Despite this, the brand and the fanatic Apple fans with undoubtedly allow the company to shift a fair few.

So Apple are no longer innovating.  The iPhone, which revived the companies fortunes and which made it the biggest tech company in the world, along with the iPad, which opened up a huge market which few people saw existing, are now leading to the long-term decline of the company as sales slowly decline and other companies take over.  Having said that, Apple isn't going anywhere fast and they'll stick around long enough for a few more iPhones to come out yet.  However, if they don't innovate and produce something truly new and revolutionary- Apple will fade away slowly like numerous tech companies of the past have.
