Nokia Asha 311- review and specs

Nokia Asha 311
Like the other phones in the Asha range, the Asha 311 is a budget phone focused around being connected through social networks etc.  The handset has a very simple design with a full 3 inch touch screen display and just two physical buttons at the bottom.
Despite being a Nokia phone, this device doesn't run any of Microsoft's software.  Instead, the phone runs Nokia's own Series 40 Operating system which is extremely basic and doesn't really compare to Android, iOS or Windows Phone.  The Series 40 Os has also been known to contain lots of bugs, and have problems running smoothly with the touchscreen.  Also, because it doesn't run Android or Windows Phone OS, it means the choice of Apps is very limited.

The screen is a 3 inch, full touch screen which follows the trend of old Nokia phones by being toughened with gorilla glass.  The resolution of the screen is, to put it simply, terrible.  Although the this device is a budget phone, a resolution of 240x400 with just 155ppi (pixels per square inch) isn't good enough to justify a £100 price tag.  The resolution also means that when zoomed out on text, it is unreadable.  The keyboard on the phone isn't, for some bizarre reason, QWERTY.  It is the same as old texting keyboard and this means that typing is a lot slower than it needs to be.

Some well-known apps are available, for example Angry birds, and there are apps for Facebook and Twitter etc.  Thanks to a deal Nokia has with EA, you are also able to download 60 EA games for free.

The phone's camera also fits in with the rest of the phone- it's rubbish.  At only 3.2 MB you can't take good photo's at all and this really backs up the whole budget phone idea.  However the device costs £100 and for this money there are definitely other options to consider.  If you are looking for a budget phone then there are a lot of better alternatives which run android.  For example the Huawei Ascend G300 is the same price as the Nokia Asha 311 and has much better specs!  So, considering the alternatives the Nokia Asha 311 shouldn't even be considered.

Overall rating: 2/5 - poor performance all round.
