The new iPad! (Updated)

By Toby 23 March 2012
Recently, Apple announced their "New iPad".
But what is better than their previous models (iPad 2).  The main new features of the new iPad are:

  • The screen.  Apple claim that it has 4 times the resolution than previous models.  In their promotional video (apple.com) they explain how they've done it and also say that their new screen has the best quality and resolution than any other portable device ever. But, just how can a screen make all the difference?
Other reviews say that once you've used it, you wont want to go back to anything else. The resolution is 2048X1536 pixels.
So the iPad screen is better and sharper, but this also means that the graphics chip has lots more pixels to handle, using more power.  Also, the backing lights have had to be in creased form 36 to 84, meaning more power consumption.  However, Apple has managed to leep the battery life roughly the same (10 hours).
However a bigger battery is not always better.  Some test showed that the new iPad took 50% longer to charge than the iPad 2!  The new iPad, doesn't follow the trend of new devices getting thinner and lighter.  The new iPad is heavier and thicker than iPad 2.
  • The next thing that Apple showed off about is the software.  they say that applications and more have been updated to match the new screen.
  • They also say the Camera is the same as in the iPhone 4.
