HP Folio 13- review

By Toby 11 January 2012

Previously we blogged about this Laptop coming soon.  Well, here it is!

HP has joined the Ultrabook revolution by launching the Folio 13 which feautres decent connectivity and specs without breaking the bank. The HP Folio 13 has been launched by HP as its first "business" Ultrabook claiming it has the industry’s best battery life, at a purported nine hours - which if it proves to be true will indeed be a great boon for the Folio 13.

The 13.3in laptop, like all ultrabooks is pretty thin, at 18mm, though not as thin as some of its competitors such as the Acer Aspire S3. It weighs in at 1.5kg which is again a little heavier than the competition, such as the Toshiba Portege Z830, but the added few grams shouldn't be too much to bear.

As well as the stunning HP Envy 14 Spectre, HP launched a second Intel Ultrabook here at CES 2012. Pitched more at mobile workers, the Folio 13 features up to nine hours of battery life.
On paper, that's the best battery life of any Ultrabook so far announced. The Folio 13 variant we saw was sporting a Core i5, but expect a Core i3 variant at least.
We thought the keyboard was lovely, the trackpad less so - it's just not definite enough for our liking

The 13.3-inch Folio 13 weighs just 1.49kg and is 18mm thick - we love the chassis and we'd be very pleased to use one of these when out and about.
There's a backlit keyboard as well as a full array of ports including Ethernet and USB 3.0. You also get a 128GB SSD. Audio is enhanced by Dolby.

A USB 2.0 dock is available for in-office use while there's also an optional TPM Embedded Security Chip protects data against loss for mobile workers.
