India's Aakash Tablet: $35-$60!

By Toby 15 October 2011
Indian tabletThis new touch-screen tablet shocked people with it's price of just £62.00.  It is currently the cheapest on the market and is said to be similar to the Samsung Galaxy 10.1.  It's a good size, small and light, It's low price as well and it even has a USB and Memory card slot which  hasn't been seen with the more popular tablets such as the Apple Ipad.  However it's not all good:
It has low battery life and limited apps whereas the Apple i store has thousands you can browse.  Another bad thing about this new Tablet is the Touch-screen.  It uses resistive touch screen.  This is slower and more commonly used with devices which you are intended to use a stylus instead of your finger.
Most tablets, nowhere day's,  start with around 500MB of memory and 16GB of storage, whereas the Aakash only has 256MB and just 2GB of storage.  It does have built in wifi and is also planning to start doing 3G.

So there are some good thing and some bad things about this new Tablet but in the end this was designed, mostly, for students, and officials hope that this will enable millions of students to get access to the Aakash. The tablet is part of the government inishertive to expand broadband to over 500 colleges.
