Yahoo! Confirms they've bought Tumblr and 'promises not to screw it up'

By Admin 20 May 2013
Yahoo! have confirmed the purchase of micro blogging and social networking site Tumblr for $1.1 billion.  In a statement issued on Yahoo.tumblr.com, The CEO of Yahoo! has said:
I’m delighted to announce that we’ve reached an agreement to acquire Tumblr!
And Then:
We promise not to screw it up.
This statement comes amid excessive user complaint about the Yahoo!-Tumblr Takeover with most users expressing their opposition to the acquisition.  However, news that Tumblr founder: David Karp will remain the CEO may go down well amongst loyal users.  Yahoo! have said that they'll run Tumblr interdependently. This could mean Tumblr will stay relatively the same.
In terms of working together, Tumblr can deploy Yahoo!’s personalization technology and search infrastructure to help its users discover creators, bloggers, and content they’ll love.  In turn, Tumblr brings 50 billion blog posts (and 75 million more arriving each day) to Yahoo!’s media network and search experiences.  The two companies will also work together to create advertising opportunities that are seamless and enhance user experience.

User response:
The feedback from users has been very negative with many threatening to delete their blog if the take over goes ahead.

One user described it as: It’s like Tumblr is the Titanic and Yahoo is the iceberg.
