Apple 2012 tech roundup!

By Admin 17 December 2012
This year, we saw a whole new set of gadgets from Apple, including 3 iPads!  The iPad 3 took the tablet industry to a whole new level in March with the"new" Retina display.  It also featured a faster processor than the iPad 2, however it was heavier and thicker which was a bit disappointing despite being inevitable.  The iPad 3 didn't seem to be enough for them though, as in October Apple released the 4th generation of iPad.  However, there weren't many changes, certainly no big ones.  The main difference was the processer which was upgraded to be faster.

The iPad Mini was a highly anticipated device that Apple delivered to us ,along with the iPad 4, this October.  It was basically what we expected, however it didn't feature retina display and it had most of the same features as the iPad 2.

The biggest release for Apple this year, though, was probably the iPhone 5.  It received mixed reviews with many saying it was just the same as the 4S.  This, however, couldn't be further from the truth.  The iPhone 5 screen was bigger.  It would seem they had noticed that Samsung was on to something with the larger screen idea and so the iPhone scree is now 4 inches.  As well as this, the iPhone 5 got a faster processer, a better screen, and Apple introduced iOS 6 along side it.

iOS 6 was actually a bit of a let down from Apple.  There was no major UI changes and it is still very similar to what it was back in 2007 when it was first released.  The only good change was the App store which was completely re-modeled and does look better, with apps and music now easier to find.  The main thing that caused people to be annoyed with iOS 6, though, was maps.  Apple maps replaced Google Maps and even though there were some good features, many of the places weren't accurate.  Towns and cities were put in the wrong places and some were even listed as names which they haven't been called for years.  As well as this they also got rid of the YouTube app, however Google have now released their own version of the app which can be downloaded on the App store.

Apple also updated their range of iPods, with a new iPod nano and a new iPod touch featuring the most changes.

That's the iDevice Apple round up for 2012!  Feel free to share your opinion on any of the devices etc. mentioned here!
