Google iPhone app screenshotsGoogle have now released their Mapping app, Google Maps on iOS.  The app previously came with the iOS Apple software but was replaced with Apple's own mapping software, Apple maps, when iOS 6 came out.
Apple maps faced huge criticism which lead to Apple doing something they've never done before.  Apologize.

The new app has some new features compared to the one previously on iOS, which have only ben seen on Android before.

Apple Maps has received lots of criticism
There was some speculation to whether Apple would accept the App to their App Store as it would rival their own app.  However, it is probably more beneficial for them to accept it as if they didn't it would mean their rival Android would have the app exclusively.

As well as rivaling Apple's own app, Google will have competition from Nokia which has recently developed it's own mapping app for Android, iOS, blackberry and other systems.
