Blackberry Founder quits as company returns to profit

By Admin 02 April 2013
Mike Lazaridis, founder of RIM (research in motion)- which is no Blackberry, will quit the company he started in the late 1980's saying; "I've fulfilled my commitments to the board and it's time to move on to my next venture." This latest turn of events comes after Blackberry reported a surprise profit at the start of this year.  They sold over 1 million of their new flagship Z10 device, as well as 5 million other handsets.

Blackberry has faced many problems in the last few years and has seen it's Smartphone market share plummet, falling behind Apple and Android devices.  Recently they lost their 3rd place position after Windows Phone joined Apple and Android to become the 3rd favourite operating system.

Although in the previous quarter BlackBerry reported a profit of $94 million, the company still has a long way to go until it's stable again.  It is unlikely that Blackberry will ever return to it's former glory as king of the Smartphone market, but the new BB10 OS has given the company a little bit of hope.
