Special report: What effect will windows 8 have on laptops and tablets

HP Envy x2 and TouchsmartWith the release of a new Windows operating system just around the corner, many companies have been taking the oppertunity to show off new devices.  These companies include HP, Dell, lenovo, toshiba and Asus.
There are three different types of devices which the companies hhave chosen to go for.  The first is a device where the screen (touch) can be removed from the keyboard and then used as a tablet.  It can then be reattached and used as a standard laptop.
The second is like Dells XPS Duo 12.  The device can be used as a normal laptop and then turned into a tablet by sliding the screen down infront of the keyboard.  So basically, the keyboard is behind the screen which does add bulk to the device especially as if you are using it as a tablet.
Dell XPS Duo 12Microsofts surface is also like this, however the keyboard doubles up as a cover , meaning it is easily portable.
Lenevo have taken a more classic approach with a screen which isn't touch.  They still feel that there is a place in the market for a classsic laptop, despite Microsoft saying that Windows 8 has been designed to work well with touchscreen as well as classic mouse and keyboard.

The Windows 8 Operating System is a major update, with the start page completely changed meaning it come up with your "apps".   This is called metro.  This is the part which has really been designed and optimised for tablets, which is good for the devices mentioned earlier because it means that the way you use the software can adjust as you change the way you use the device.  You can easily switch between desktop and Metro.

Toshiba Satellite U925tInternet explorer 10 also comes with it and it does have flash meaning that it is better for tablet and computer users.

Overall, Windows 8 could be really popular or it could be a massive flop.  Having a device which can be used as a laptop with a keyboard and Mouse and then be instantly changed into just a touch screeen tablet which also runs microsoft office could be really good.  But, to really know if it's going to work we'll just have to wait until it comes out.
